However find in the general tips ways to improve the stain through a D.I.Y.

  • Deal with the stain as quickly as possible for a better chance of success.

  • Never scrub or rub.

  • Always work from outside of the stain inward to avoid spreading.

  • Scrape up or blot as any excess before you try to clean the stain.

  • Do not use inappropriate detergents (e.g. washing up liquid, washing powders, household bleach, disinfectants) on carpet or upholstery.

  • Use detergents at the dilution recommended by the manufacturer.

  • Do not apply detergents directly onto the carpet or fabric-put the fluid on an absorbent material and use this to clean the stain.

  • Do not over wet as the liquid will soak into the backing material.

  • If you have no stain removal products to hand a dab of vodka or gin is one of the safest products that you can try dabbing and blotting until the mark is less obvious.

  • Keep the fabric or carpet as dry as possible and encourage quick drying (e.g. hairdryer).
